Ourano breed first and foremost to better and further the breed, so careful thought, meticulous planning and sound understanding of each dog goes into any planned breeding/mating. Only once we are happy with the results, are dogs/puppies available to the discerning hunter or outdoorsman. Dogs are screened for years before they are considered breeding stock or of a breeding standard. There are many aspects to check off the checklist before they can be bred. This is what responsible breeding is about.

PUPPY WAITING LIST
Ourano produce a maximum of two litters per year.
A waiting list of interested individuals is maintained throughout the year.
The potential owners are contacted at birth to discuss the potential homing.
A gender preference can also be put forward at this point.
We only look at new homes for our dogs from 4 months of age.
Visits are encouraged during this period, within reason.
All puppies are microchipped and inoculated before being homed.
Ourano dogs are KUSA registered – Kennel Union of South Africa.
The only internationally accredited registrar for pedigreed dogs in South Africa.
The pedigree certificate is available to owners once it has been received by Ourano.

Meticulous Selection
I dedicated my life to the true European Pointer many, many moons ago. Having been isolated somewhat in South Africa, with limited pure European genetics at my disposal, I undertook the adventure of importing my own dogs to form the cornerstone of my kennel. Dogs with traits that I identified that would lend themselves through careful, meticulous, selective breeding, to eventually achieve a dog worthy of any game bird species, any arduous terrain, and most importantly even tempered enough to fit into any family dynamic or home. I place equal emphasis on the overall physical confirmation of a Pointer as I do with what is between its ears; trainability, biddability, intelligence.

I dedicated my life to the true European Pointer many, many moons ago. ETHICAL BREEDING
Only dogs that are of an exceptional standard in a working criteria, equaled physically, and of course intelligence, but also, in terms of an overall health standard make the breeding grade. Responsible breeding is becoming all too rare unfortunately, and thus, I hold this high standard to every planned pairing and litter. My male dogs are not available to stud for a handsome fee as many breeders offer to make a buck back, I am not driven by monetary remuneration. And I will not consider dogs to breed owned by other people, unless I know the dogs backward, and have an extensive understanding of their abilities and genetics. This is not founded on arrogance, merely the commitment to bettering the breed and adhering to this high standard.
