Breeding Post

I dedicated my life to the true European Pointer many, many moons ago. Having been isolated somewhat in South Africa, with limited pure European genetics at my disposal, I undertook the adventure of importing my own dogs to form the cornerstone of my kennel. Dogs with traits that I identified that would lend themselves through careful, meticulous, selective breeding, to eventually achieve a dog worthy of any game bird specie, any arduous terrain, and most importantly even tempered enough to fit into any family dynamic or home. I place equal emphasis on the overall physical confirmation of a Pointer as I do with what is between its ears; trainability, biddability, intelligence. These are in my humble opinion, just as important and imperative to a gundogs overall make up as its form is for function. A gundog can look the part, and turn heads but can he outwit a cunning, wily, wild bird using his brain and his superior nose? These are the small intricacies I look for and try and harness in my breeding plans. I earmarked intelligence (judged a number of ways), natural prey drive but in conjunction with wanting to work with me and not for themselves, and lastly biddability as key aspects that stand out to me in above average doff. I have seen enough of these aforementioned traits in my own dogs to comfortably continue breeding within a very selective, well screened gene pool. Any new additions or imports/out crossed, will go through the same screening from me, before adding him or her to the line.

I have managed to harbour some of the creme de la creme of the European Pointer genetics here in my kennel, and I don’t plan on stopping where I am now. You cannot ever be too confident and comfortable in your position, trust me, dogs will humble you. They have a knack of doing so. I travel Europe, I chat to the leading breeders and triallers regularly, and I am forever gleaning pages of books or on the internet to learn more and expand my knowledge and understanding. I have dedicated my life to this beautiful breed, and my sole objective is to leave the breed in a better place than when I found it – If for only with what may pass through my hands alone, that may be enough. Only dogs that are of an exceptional standard in a working criteria, equalled physically, and of course intelligence, but also, in terms of an overall health standard make the breeding grade. Responsible breeding is becoming all too rare unfortunately, and thus, I hold this high standard to every planned pairing and litter. My male dogs are not available to stud for a handsome fee as many breeders offer to make a buck back, I am not driven by monetary remuneration. And I will not consider dogs to breed owned by other people, unless I know the dogs backward, and have an extensive understanding of their abilities and genetics. This is not founded on arrogance, merely the commitment to bettering the breed and adhering to this high standard mentioned previously.

I have committed myself passionately and unapologetically to this wonderful breed and my very own line of Pointers, and they will always come first and foremost in all of my decisions that I make in my life. Both personally, and publicly.

Every now and then, started or fully trained adult dogs are available to the right homes, as well as occasionally there are puppies available from my world renowned Pointer kennel and line, but the Pointer puppies are not readily available as they are usually in high demand, and I only breed for my own needs first and foremost and then addresses the public’s interest thereafter.

Thank you for your interest and your time in reading a little bit about my kennel, my ways and my life. I look forward to welcoming your hunting companion to our training family, and as a possible Ourano puppy owner.

Always chasing the horizon,

Chris.
